After bringing home the International Superyacht Society award for Excellence in Innovation in Fort Lauderdale in October 2014, Gold Coast manufacturer, Superior has again been recognised for design-led ingenuity and innovation with a win at this year’s MIA Marina of the Year Awards, held 2-5 May at the Marine15 Conference at RACV Royal Pines Resort.

Waterscape by Superior won the Best Marina Innovation for 2015.

Waterscape is the world-first commercial and domestic adaptive floating system (AFS) recently patented and launched in Australia.

The product of a two-year collaboration between Superior CEO, John Hogan and designer, Alexander Lotersztain at Derlot Pty Ltd, Waterscape shines the spotlight on the “water appeal” of a home or venue and will inspire a diverse range of users: architects, home owners, prestige brands, superyachts and waterfront hotels.

“Waterscape is visually arresting and innovative in its versatility,” said Hogan. “It adds another dimension to waterfront living and entertaining and we see a myriad of applications for yacht clubs, marina precincts, luxury homes and hotels. Anywhere there is a body of still water, Waterscape will extend the usage and enjoyment of the on-water experience.”

As Hogan explained: “The design led journey really was influenced by direct customer input. Through that deep customer insight special items such as the glass balustrade and the incorporated ladder were created.”

Receiving the award at the MIA Awards night during the Marine15 conference, Hogan stated: “To be recognised by our peers is satisfying and an honour. Waterscape was on display at Marine15 and drew plenty of interest from the international delegates. Conference attendees joined our clients, contacts, the design community, VIPs and media for a celebration evening on the first Waterscape installed, at Southport Yacht Club.”

Along with the Waterscape pontoon – LED-lit for maximum ‘wow factor’ shimmering off the water at night – Superior unveiled its Waterscape-branded range of rotomoulded furniture that complements the pontoon, but can be used individually.

Superior Jetties is headquartered at Arundel on the Gold Coast, and manufactures design-led flotation solutions for use all over the world, winning the Premier of Queensland Export Award in 2009.

“With substantial interest in both the commercial and domestic markets, Waterscape is now being rolled out internationally,” added Hogan.
