Falmouth Classics cancelled for 2020

The Falmouth Classics Association, following the Coronavirus (Covid 19) outbreak, the likely continuation into June and beyond and the possible increase in Government control measures, has decided, with great regret, that it must cancel the thirty third Falmouth Classics to be held from 12-14 June 2020.

The Falmouth Classics has, over the last three years, become the largest UK heritage and classic sailing event with upwards of 200 vessels. It is a national and international event, which attracts over 500 skippers and crews together with the public from the UK and Europe. The Association feels it is important to play its part in managing the spread of the virus and has thus taken this step to protect crews, our team of volunteers and the public.

The 2020 organising team has worked hard to plan and prepare for what promised to be a great event with tall ships in the port, an exciting array of exhibitors in the maritime village, a great parade of sail and power, which would have included a spectacle to mark the Falmouth Harbour commissioners anniversary and of course racing in both the Carrick Roads and Falmouth Bay.

Chairman, Keith Tullett said "Falmouth Classics Association would like to thank all those who have already entered, our very supportive sponsors and our advertisers. This is an unprecedented occurrence in the long history of the Classics but we look forward to a healthy 2021, when the Classics will take place from 11 - 13 June. We hope all those who have supported the 2020 event will be prepared to do so next year. Keep an eye on www.falmouthclassics.org.uk

Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival which was also to take place at the same time has also been cancelled - see www.falmouthseashanty.co.uk
