2022 ILCA Nationals at Hayling Island Sailing Club - Sailingfast Day 3

by UKLA 21 Jul 2022 09:09 NZST 17-22 July 2022

Cooler, windier but just as sunny, Hayling Island Sailing Club delivered in spades on Day 3 of the ILCA UKLA Nationals Championships.

With a slightly earlier start time of 11:25 and 4 races planned the fleets made their way out in glorious sunshine and a steady 13 to 16 knots at 210 degrees. The ILCA 7s and 6s were sailing east just off Bracklesham. The ILCA 4s over in Hayling Bay.

ILCA4 Fleets

Although a split fleet we have a new leader. Henry Redmond banged out four wins with Freddie Sunderland (15 years old !) Is still in the mix but struggling in the breezier conditions. In 3rd Noah Evans had a good day taking 2 bullets. Fred Salter and Angus Beale both had wins but also some big numbers. Max Steel, who had a great Nationals last year is off the pace but with two more days racing things could change.

ILCA6 Fleets

Daisy Collingridge was all set to take 4 wins until falling victim to the black flag in the last race. However she now leads on 8 points - Ben Elvin is only one point behind and one point behind him is Matilda Nicholls. Ross Harvey is not far behind and he kept his hopes alive with 2 firsts.

Matthew Rist and Freddie Howarth, at 18 and 17 respectively, are just outside the top 10 but sailed well in such a competitive fleet.

ILCA7

Another dominant performance by Jake Farren-Price saw him stretch out a healthy lead with 3 firsts over his nearest rival local boy Finley Dickinson. Jack Hopkins, now a master, was on fire in the 5th race with a third. Mark Lyttle GM just managed to get in the top ten.

All competitors were welcomed ashore by SailingFast's Duncan Hepplewhite. As competitors handed in their tally bands he handed them a magnificent tee shirt.

A truly great day's racing in a great venue with suburb race management and a great sponsor.

Two more days to go.
