From hands-on work experience for high school students to pre-trade training to leadership opportunities, the marine industry offers exciting career opportunities.

Many of these will be showcased at the 25th Auckland Boat Show, 5-8 March 2026.

Careers in the marine industry range from boat building and industrial composites, to sailmaking, yacht rigging, engine systems and working in marinas or boatyards.

"You can work with your hands, be outdoors, work with people, or move into operations and management – there really is something for everyone," says Joe Daw, MAST Academy's Training Manager. MAST provides specialised work-based learning across the sector.

A new Careers Zone at the Auckland Boat Show will showcase these pathways, with schools across the Auckland Region invited to attend and explore the opportunities.

The marine industry is a $3 billion sector offering exciting career opportunities for people at all stages of their working life.

More than 50 of the show’s 160 exhibitors have staff in programs with MAST Academy, which means the Auckland Boat Show provides an exceptional opportunity to see the industry in action.

"It’s a chance to see everything in one place, and maybe even talk with potential employers," says Joe Daw.

A special invitation-only event for schools and career advisors will take place during the show.

You can find out more about MAST’s Launch it – School to Work programme or visit their Virtual Career Expo at www.mastacademy.com
