Cardiff sailor Jamie Rhys-Martin won the first ever Welsh Sailability Championships, held in Clywedog in Mid Wales.

The first event held in Wales for all sailors with disability was a great sign of the progress the Sailability scheme has made in recent years, with some very competitive racing as well as the enjoyment factor.

Rhys-Martin won each of the four races, sailing a Feva boat, with home sailor Su Rollinson chasing him down in each race and Telford's third placed Michael Crehan doing exceptionally well after only taking up sailing this year.

"This was the first of what we hope will become a regular Welsh Sailability Championship," explained Welsh Yachting Association's Sailability development officer Keith Rollison.

"We held it at Clywedog, alongside the Club Youth Racing Circuit events, because there are excellent facilities for sailors with a disability.

"As these facilities improve at many clubs around Wales we hope to be able to move these championships around.

"Congratulations to Jamie for some excellent racing, but everyone who took part would have got a lot out of the event."
