Yorkshire and Humberside Youth Travellers at Rotherham Sailing Club

by Steve Chilton 25 May 2016 19:45 NZST 21 May 2016

This was the third event of the Yorkshire and Humberside series, the weather forecast was not favourable but as usual it was wrong. The rain did arrive after every one had packed up and left so that was good timing. The wind was gusty everyone at some time being caught out and going for a swim, usually in a very spectacular way.

Race one got underway with the wind being reasonably kind. The race was very closely contested with only seconds separating the first three boats.

1st Jenny Parsons, Rotherham
2nd Innes Bamford, Huddersfield
3rd Archie Burton, Beaver
4th Abbie Cooper, Rotherham

By the time race two got underway the wind had decided to increase, this caused quite a number of capsizes. It was clear that Jenny and Innes were masters of the ever increasing difficult conditions. I don't know what it is about race officers but they always seem to have the jibe mark in the windiest most difficult part of the water.

1st Jenny Parsons
2nd Innes Bamford
3rd Archie Burton
4th Abbie Cooper

Race three, the wind had now become even stronger not for the faint hearted, but this did not deter Innes and Archie. Really well done.

1st Innes Bamford
2nd Archie Burton
3rd Jenny Parsons
3rd Abbie Cooper
