K6 Open at Aldeburgh Yacht Club

Aldeburgh Yacht Club hosted their annual Open meeting for the K6 Class over the weekend of 14/15th July. Ten boats, including six visitors, sailed a series of six windward / leeward three lap courses in two sessions over the weekend - both in light SE conditions and wall to wall sunshine.

PRO Simon and Ning Fulford and Gail Jones managed the event perfectly from the committee boat and set true courses on a conveniently positioned part of the river clear of the moorings on both days.

The beat was against the flood for all races except the third on Saturday when the ebb had set in which made for short tacking. Competitors went to both banks on every lap with favourable shifts and pressure variations seemingly making the difference.

The racing was close particularly in the middle order - but Lawrence and his son Luka Crispin from Stone SC defending their title were stand out winners with 6 points to count. The battle for second to fourth was close between Dave Hall sailing with his daughter Laura Mold, Neil Fulcher with James Polston / Dave Smith and the family of Fraser Elms, Georgie Smith and Laura Elms.

In the end it was Dave and Laura just taking runner up by one point. A most enjoyable dinner was held in the Club house for crews and their families which made for a great social weekend with some good racing in great conditions!
