Flying Machine (Craig Edwards) has made a great start in this year's South Island Young 88 Champs with three wins from four races on day one.
In perfect sailing conditions on Akaroa Harbour the fleet of eight boats, saw some of the closest and most exciting racing in the South Island event in some years. The defending champion and former Team New Zealand member and Americas Cup World Series sailor, Harry Thurston on One Way holds second place.
Full Circle (Phil Folter) is in third place with First Class (Rick Halifax) not far behind. With light airs forecast tomorrow the contest remains wide open.
