New Winter dates for 2021-2022 now released!

The Performance Academy is a continuation of the brilliant work that the Andrew Simpson Foundation and their not-for-profit Centres achieve, creating a pathway of support and opportunities from entry level sailor through to elite athlete. This year, they have joined forces with Henri Lloyd, their new official partner who will be providing expert kit for top level training.

The dates for 2021-2022 are now live and can be found here ascperformanceacademy.org

A packed schedule for summer and beyond

This summer, Andrew Simpson Performance Academy ran a series of successful and varied ILCA summer camps across a wide range of classes including a residential ILCA 6 camp over 3 weeks based at their Portland centre featuring a week-long ILCA // Foiling Camp.

They also provided event support at the ILCA 4 World Championships and the IOCA Optimist National Championships, as well as building a great community of windsurfers at their Portsmouth centre, who joined the new weekly Performance Windsurf Club (for BIC Techno & Foilers). And that's not all! They partnered with Fluid Boat Services to deliver Nacra 15 Transition sessions, are collaborating with the UK 49er Class to provide open training and are also now working with the Waszp class to deliver their newcomers training.

Their event support continues at the ILCA 7 Men's World Championships next month.

Andrew Simpson Performance Academy: a world-class team

A team of expert coaches provide high quality training for sailors in their transitional, class specific and performance pathways. They help sailors transition into a different class and provide the very best chance of success at every level.

They also offer international event support and international training camps at their European HQ in Italy's Lake Garda and at various locations globally.

Training levels explained

Transitional Training

Performance Academy transition training is aimed at sailors taking their next step. Moving into a new class is exciting and their goal is to support that journey by providing a solid foundation in the new key skills. During transitional training the coaches will focus on boat handling, boat setup, upwind and downwind techniques and preparing/maintaining your equipment.

Suitable for:
Competent sailors who already compete at a national level and are transitioning into a new class or rig.

Class Specific Training

The Performance Academy class specific training is designed to help sailors develop skills and improve results. The training covers a wide range of skills and techniques required to perform at a national level and they support the development of sailors who race regularly at class events. In class specific training, more detailed boat handling and upwind/downwind techniques are covered, as well as developing understanding of boat setup. This training also focuses on racing specific skills such as starting and decision making, regatta techniques and athlete skills.

Suitable for:
Competent sailors looking to develop their skills and/ or improve their results at a national level.

Performance Programmes

The Performance programme is their highest level of training and performance support. Competing at national and international level events is very rewarding but can be very challenging. Their expert coaches have a huge amount of knowledge and experience in both competing and coaching at national and international events. Through careful planning, training is designed specifically for sailors who are looking to compete at the highest level.

Suitable for:
Top level sailors who regularly compete towards the top of national and international events
