64th Nice Christmas Regatta at Club Nautique de Nice - Preview

by Alexander Panzeri 28 Dec 2021 12:07 NZDT 27-30 December 2021

Here we are finally after the Covid stop in 2020, the last main event of sailing event of 2021 is taking place: the 64th Nice Christmas Regatta - Trophée Jacques Puisségur.

Hopes are high with the sunset on the horizon as red as the Esterel silhouette. This year the event is not only a regatta of the SSL circuit (250 points) but also the French Championship (open, so everyone can attend) and the 9th District Championship.

Unfortunately after a good 33 boats registered, 8 has to withdraw due to Covid restrictions or a positive test, but back as usual there's an American team, Doug Smith and Guy Avellon, as the furthest travelled. Second are the two Scandinavian teams (Finland and Sweden) with a total of 12 nations in the field.

If some big names are missing, like Xavier Rohart, there's a comeback of the double star: Diego Negri & Sergio Lambertenghi, fresh from their World Champion title and runners-up in the European Championship.

Everything is ready for the first day with two races scheduled in the morning, and one or two in the afternoon.
