Several Wingfoil sailors have got together and have announced the formation of Wingfoil New Zealand Incorporated. It is the NZ Class Association, to conduct racing and promote Wingfoiling in NZ. It is affiliated to Yachting NZ.

Some key dates and events:

  • August 21, 2022 - Race Day at Takapuna to tie in with the TBC Winter Series, with a get together afterward.
  • February 4 & 5, 2023 - inaugural Nationals at Manly SC
  • Other racing - Wingfoil NZ is looking to set up a race program around NZ at different clubs and work within club programmes

Following is a note being circulated by the founders of the NZ Class Association.

Wingfoil New Zealand is registered as an incorporated society and is officially affiliated to Yachting New Zealand.

This has been in response to the strength and growth of the class and a vision to build on the foundation, shared values and purpose of existing sailing clubs across NZ.

You may ask why we need an organisation for Wingfoiling?

Our mission is to support the growth and development of Wingfoiling in New Zealand.

The formation of the class association helps with getting racing organised using the resources of the various yacht clubs around the country. The idea is to assist more clubs to organise racing and to bring Wingfoiling into their sailing programmes. Manly Sailing Club and Takapuna Boating Club have done an amazing job to date and we are keen to see this keep expanding across clubs all over New Zealand. Wakatere Boating Club are planning to introduce wings into their summer racing programme.

We have the opportunity to grow the sport through the yacht clubs and get more young sailors on the water. It gives us the opportunity to get together, sail together and socialise together. Racing is not for everyone but the social aspect of our sport is something that we can all enjoy. In time we also hope to run events across other disciplines including downwinding, wave riding, speed sailing and freestyle.

We have taken the step of booking in the inaugural Wingfoil National Championships to be sailed at Manly Sailing Club on February 4th & 5th 2023. Please put that date in your diary and we will be releasing a full calendar for the summer season soon.

We would like to invite anyone interested in joining up, becoming part of the executive committee or helping in other ways to come to the Takapuna Boating Club on Sunday 21st August at 5pm. (following the racing at Takapuna scheduled that day)

If the racing is cancelled we will still meet up at 5pm.

If you are unable to attend but are interested to join or be part of the executive team please send us an email at

Our intention is to make this a NZ-wide group and we welcome anyone from around the country to join.

Let's create a circuit where we can sail in some stunning locations around the country, make new friends while helping to promote the love of sailing and our beautiful waters.
