The Performance Academy Sailing Scholarship (PASS) is a unique opportunity for the Andrew Simpson Foundation (ASF) to provide pathway sailors subsidised additional training and support through the Performance Academy programmes

How are the sailors selected?

Junior, youth and senior pathway sailors can apply. These sailors will be selected based on their need for additional support and their alignment to the ASF's values (Inclusivity, Enjoyment, Community, Development, Inspiring & Partnerships). The full value of the scholarship will be up to £2,000 per person depending on the training and opportunities chosen.

As part of the scholarship, sailors will be asked to engage with Performance Academy social media posts and write two blog posts about their experience through the scholarship, and the impact of the support offered.

2022 Scholarships

Last year, four sailors across the junior and youth pathway were selected to have subsidised access to ASC Performance Academy training, a mentoring programme and team kit. These sailors found the training and mentoring transformational, as you can see from their blog posts:

Henry Redmond's Blog:

"I have used my PASS funding for training throughout the summer, to help me prepare for the summer and autumn events."

Abi Smith's Blog:

"The PASS mentoring programme has been a brilliant chance to reflect on the most recent events and think about what I did well and what I could have done better. Most of the time the mentoring was on the water so I could get tips on how to improve a certain skill and then practice it."

Tom Mitchell's Blog:

"The PASS programme allows me to access some of the best coaching in the country."

Imogen Palmer's Blog: "I would not have been able to access this level of support if not for the PASS Scholarship."

A full programme of training and support

In 2022, we supported the sailors by providing subsidised access to world class training opportunities, they received subsidised event support at the Ilca 6 Europeans, Ilca 4 worlds and the Ilca 4 Europeans, and they all had access to a dedicated mentoring scheme.
