Between them, Ian Walker and Conrad Humphreys have clocked up hundreds of thousands of sailing miles, and next week they’ll share that experience on two Live Q&A Calls with Road To Gold.

0900 hours UTC/ GMT Thursday 22 December: Ian Walker

TOPIC - The construction of a great sailor: the DOs and DON’Ts of youth training, and the pathway to Olympic greatness...

With two Olympic silver medals and victory in the Volvo Ocean Race among many glittering moments in his long career, Ian has enormous experience across the whole spectrum of sailboat racing. Recently departed from the RYA as director of racing, having overseen GBR success at Tokyo 2020, Ian is now general manager of North Sails UK. It will be a broad ranging discussion with Ian, but with a specific focus on how to get the best out of kids, to make sure they fulfil their potential not just in racing terms, but in remaining long term in the sport.

0900 hours UTC/ GMT Friday 23 December: Conrad Humphreys

TOPIC - How to get the best out of your team in stressful situations...

At the age of 26, Conrad Humphreys skippered his amateur crew to a dominant victory in the 2000/01 edition of the BT Global Challenge, winning four of the seven legs. He has also competed in the solo Vendée Globe as well as the fully crewed Volvo Ocean Race. In 2016, Conrad was recruited to be the professional skipper on board the ambitious Channel 4 TV recreation of Captain Bligh’s legendary 4000 mile voyage in an open 23 foot boat from Tonga to Timor. Using traditional navigation equipment and surviving off the same meagre rations as Bligh, a team of nine men led by former SBS trooper Anthony Middleton were cast adrift to recreate one of the world's greatest open boat voyages.
