Marine Jobs is a collaboration of the Marina Industries Association (MIA), the Boating Industry Association Ltd (BIA) and Superyacht Australia (SYA). It was developed to help the marine industry tackle the competitive tight labour market and promote the marine industry as a preferred career choice.

Marine Jobs helps to retain workers in the industry by making it easy to find their next industry opportunity and helps employers to advertise their available positions to a targeted, skilled and interested pool of job seekers.

To ensure Marine Jobs is best placed to deliver to the recruitment needs of the industry, the decision has been made to transition Marine Jobs to a Facebook platform. The high cost of marketing and administering the Marine Jobs on the current platform was unsustainable for the three associations to continue funding in the longer term. As Marine Jobs is a valued brand providing an important recruitment and retention function for the industry, the collaboration agreed it was necessary to find a sustainable way forward.

Suzanne Davies, CEO of the MIA said, "It is known that social media provides an important role in the recruitment function with over 86% of active job seekers using social media to look for and assess job opportunities. Leveraging a platform such as Facebook will simply be a more direct and efficient way of reaching job seekers. It will ensure that we can continue to provide this solution for marine industry workers and employers".

Marine Jobs has been very successful at recruiting management and administrative roles, and it is hoped that the transition to a Facebook platform will increase the exposure of operational roles. The lower cost associated with Facebook as the host platform, will mean that posting jobs will be free for employers.

The Marine Jobs domain name, marinejobs.org.au will be retained to provide important information on career pathways and jobs that are available in the various segments of the marine industry and will provide links to the Facebook page for recruiters and job seekers. From 1 June, to post a job, or find a new opportunity, go to www.facebook.com/groups/marinejobsfindyournextcareer.
