Matt Allen AM matches AOC funding to support 2024 Olympic Podium Performing Sailors

Matt Allen AM, a distinguished figure in Australian sport, has once again demonstrated his unwavering support for sailing by generously matching the Australian Olympic Committee's Medal Incentive Funding (MIF) for Olympic champion Matt Wearn and Paris 2024 silver medallist Grae Morris.

The AOC's MIF program is designed to support elite athletes as they prepare for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, easing financial pressure so they can focus on training and performance. Allen's personal contribution is a significant investment in the future of the sport and in the athletes who represent Australia on the world stage.

"Support like this makes a huge difference. It helps take some of the pressure off being an athlete and the dedication it takes to chase medals," said dual Olympic gold medallist Matt Wearn. "I'm very grateful to Matt for his generosity and for everything he continues to do for sport in Australia."

The Australian Sailing Team thanks Matt Allen AM for this remarkable contribution and his ongoing commitment to the Olympic program. CEO of Australian Sailing, Ben Houston, commented, "Matt's support sends a powerful message to our athletes that their dedication to representing Australia at the highest level is both recognised and valued. We are deeply grateful for his generosity and long-standing commitment to our sport."

Houston continued, "We hope his example inspires others in the community to consider how they too might contribute to help our athletes achieve their Olympic dreams." Individuals can contribute directly, as Allen has, or through the Australian Sailing Team Patrons Program.

Allen's latest gesture of support continues a lifelong contribution to the sport. A four-time winner of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race and Life Member of Australian Sailing, Allen served as President of Australian Sailing from 2013 to 2019. He is the Chair of World Sailing's Oceanic and Offshore Committee and currently serves on the Australian Olympic Commitee Executive Board, where he is nominated to continue in the role of Vice President for the next four years.
