A bigger and better breeze welcomed the racing fleet on the second day of the Superyacht Cup Palma 2025, resulting in full-tilt sailing around the 23nm five-leg racecourse.
With her opening day technical problem resolved the magnificent Hoek Truly Classic 128 Linnea Aurora led the fleet away, and in a remarkable reversal of fortune raced her way to Class A victory in what was her first ever competitive outing.
And just to show that nothing comes easily, the 39m sloop had to request a short race start postponement after being delayed by a ship in Palma port. As it turned out she was able to cross the line within seconds of her new staggered start time.
"We are very thankful to the race committee and the other competitors for letting us come in a little bit late," said tactician Magnus Woxen.
"So we made the start line, that was our first goal of the day, and the second was of course to win, and with a good team spirit and good work we pulled it off. The conditions were really nice. We had thought we would go a little bit right and it paid off and we did a good stretch of the first leg.
"The Superyacht Cup Palma is a wonderful event and it is great to be here doing this regatta. For Linnea Aurora this is the first race we have ever done, it is a brand-new boat, so we were really happy to have a good day. Tomorrow we will try and do it again and have another good day."
The class results see Linnea Aurora on 7 points, tied in third place with her fellow Hoek Truly Classic Vijonara. Yesterday's winner Cervo finished third today, leaving the 39m Tripp design tied at the top of the table with the Farr designed 35m Southern Wind yacht Gelliceaux which again delivered a solid second place.
In Class B meanwhile the top three results mirrored those of yesterday, but by dramatically smaller margins.
The Baltic 68 Café Racer Open Season again took the gun, but only 25 seconds ahead of the 24m Wally yacht Rose. In turn, Rose once again stayed in front of another Café Racer, Ganesha, this time by a mere eight seconds.
The solid 12-16 knot westerly breeze out on the Bay of Palma increased to 16-18 knots during the course of the race, providing a welcome challenge to all the crews.
"It was good to race out there today and the team worked hard to make every manoeuvre work for us, with close racing with all the other boats," said Rose's tactician Diego Fructuoso. "The first leg was a long one upwind so you had to go the right way and take account of the coastal effect, I think we got it right then and around the remainder of the course."
Pink Gin Verde got the better of her Baltic 68 rival Scorpione Hormar today, leaving the duo tied in fourth place, with the 24m Y8 Sveam completing the class.
With memories still fresh of the opening evening's St. Regis Midsummer BBQ for owners, on the dock celebrations continued after racing with Happy Hour by North Sails.
A solid breeze is again forecast for Saturday's concluding day at The Superyacht Cup Palma 2025, with all still to play for. The deciding race by St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca is set to start at 12:00, with the Superyacht Cup Palma Prize Giving by RSB Rigging Solutions - celebrating its 20th anniversary - scheduled for 18:00 in the SYC Tent.
