This summer, the world's fastest Olympic sailing discipline returns to Denmark, as over 200 windsurfers from more than 40 countries gather in Aarhus for the iQFOiL World Championships 2025. With athletes literally flying above the waves on high-tech boards, the city is set for a spectacular week of sport, speed, and celebration.

iQFOiL is the latest addition to Olympic windsurfing. Riders use hydrofoils to lift their boards above the water, cutting through the air at speeds up to 65 km/h. It's fast, physically demanding - and thrilling to watch.

"We're excited to welcome the world to Aarhus again. This will be a vibrant celebration of sailing - not just for experts, but for everyone," says Jon Koch Hansen, Director of Aarhus International Sailing Centre.

Free and open to all

The event is free for spectators and includes a waterfront festival along Aarhus Ø, with food trucks, activities for all ages, and big-screen coverage of the races. From 9 to 11 July, the finals will be livestreamed with English commentary, making it easy for everyone to follow the action - whether you're a lifelong fan or just curious.

"It's going to be something special racing at home in Aarhus," says Danish Olympic windsurfer Johan Søe.

"We're ready - and I hope to see a big crowd on the waterfront!"

Aarhus - the sailing capital

The city has hosted many top-level sailing events, including the 2018 Sailing World Championships and The Ocean Race. Its modern facilities and passionate volunteers make it one of Europe's leading sailing cities.

"Hosting the iQFOiL Worlds once again places Denmark - and Aarhus - at the heart of international sailing. Together with strong partners, we aim to inspire, unite, and celebrate the energy of Olympic sport," says Lars Lundov, CEO of Sport Event Denmark.
