Northern ILCA circuit event at Rudyard Lake Sailing Club

Rudyard Lake Sailing Club held the latest round of the Northern ILCA circuit with eleven ILCA sailors on Saturday 28th June.

After last year's event, the bar was set high with perfect conditions. The weather this year certainly tested the sailers with challenging Westerly winds across the course with big gusts picking up as the day progressed.

This led to gritted teeth, hard hiking and several capsizes from most of the competitors. However, all 11 sailers were fully committed to the conditions. Tim Keithley from West Riding Sailing Club took the first race in full rig.

Larry Muir, the first Rudyard competitor, took the second race to the delight of the home supporters showing he hadn't forgotten how to sail a Laser after moving away from the class for several years ago. Tim again won the final race of the day.

By the end of the day, all the competitors were in agreement that it was a challenging day's sailing with the strong and shifty winds, physically and mentally exhausting, but great racing throughout the fleet. There will be bruises to prove it in the days following.

Overall a great event and we look forward to welcoming everyone back next year.
