Snipe Women's World Championship 2025 at Enoshima, Japan - Overall

by Alex Pline 28 Jul 06:36 NZST 22-27 July 2025

The final day of the Snipe Women's Worlds came down to a game of who could grab the lead and hold it between Yoshida/Miura (JPN) and Vitturi/Borgen (CRO).

In the first race, a windward/leeward in about 13-15 knots, Vitturi/Borgen (CRO) jumped out to the lead and held it for the entire race with Yoshida/Miura (JPN) second and Macdonald/Grael (BRA) in third.

With the breeze increasing, the second race was a full 7 leg double triangle. In this race Yoshida/Miura (JPN) jumped out to the early lead and also held it to win the championship by one point on the course, although Vitturi/Borgen (CRO) eventually was penalized 1.9 points in the first race for failing to obey the check out/check in procedure.

Both races saw good performances from many of the top 10 teams but ultimately, the overall standings of the top 5 remained unchanged from yesterday.

After the prize-giving, the band taught some traditional Japanese circle dances to all competitors who were dressed in traditional Yukada's and all the teams enjoyed the dancing. Throughout the event many new friendships were made, many pictures taken and many Instagram profiles exchanged!

This event is what the Snipe Class is all about: Serious Sailing, Serious Fun!

Overall Results: (top five, 8 races, 1 discard)

1 JPN Ai Yoshida & Honoka Miura, 12pts
2 CRO Marija Andela De Micheli Vitturi & Maj Kristin Hansen Borgen, 13.9pts
3 JPN Ayaka Yamazaki & Aina Hokuto, 23pts
4 USA Kathleen Tocke & Arianna Buzzetti, 32pts

Who is Ai Yoshida?

She sailed in 4 Olympic Games (470). She won one gold and two silver medals in different 470 World Championships. She is no stranger to the Snipe Class (as our careful readers remember).
