Introducing the brand new Nordhavn 46 MK II

by Nordhavn 17 Oct 23:33 NZDT

Nearly 40 years after redefining ocean cruising with the original Nordhavn 46, Pacific Asian Enterprises (PAE) proudly announces the launch of its modern successor: the Nordhavn 46 MK II.

This new model honors the legacy of the original while embracing the latest advancements in design, engineering, and comfort.

First introduced in the 1989, the Nordhavn 46 pioneered the concept of a full-displacement, go-anywhere powerboat for adventurous couples. It went on to have more ocean crossings and circumnavigations than any other production powerboat. Now, the N46 MK II builds on that reputation, delivering a next-generation passagemaker with smarter systems, enhanced performance, and a contemporary design tailored for today's long-range cruisers.

"The N46 MK II is everything we've learned from nearly 700 ocean-going boats and four decades of real-world experience, but in a modern package," said Chief of Design Jeff Leishman. "It's a better boat in every technical sense, but it remains true to the original mission of safety, capability, and comfort for serious ocean adventure."

Key advancements in the Nordhavn 46 MK II include:

  • Twin engines for increased reliability
  • Refined hull design using our in-house advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • A quieter ride and stronger hull thanks to modern materials
  • Increased range with over 30% more fuel capacity
  • An upgraded electrical system with lithium-ion batteries and proportional thruster controls
  • A spacious layout featuring near standing room engine room and modern interior styling
  • Full equipment spec including washer/dryer, air conditioning, diesel heat, and stabilizers

The boat's sleeker exterior reflects the evolution of the Nordhavn line while still retaining its iconic DNA. "We were very intentional about updating the look while preserving the spirit," said PAE Vice President Jim Leishman. "The 46 II is unmistakably a Nordhavn."

Built at PAE's South Coast facility in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the 46 MK II will follow the proven batch build model of the Nordhavn 41 and 51, ensuring a streamlined process and more cost-effective pricing.

"The Nordhavn 46 MK II isn't just a tribute," adds Jim Leishman. "It's the most capable, efficient, and comfortable Nordhavn under 50 feet we've ever built."

The first hull is due to complete in Spring 2026.
