Greetings Bookings are open for our Seminar and Speaker program! Across the weekend, expert talks and film screenings at the New Zealand Maritime Museum will offer free sessions on boat design and restoration, voyaging traditions, maritime archaeology and ocean adventure. Highlights include designer John Welsford on his influential small-craft designs and Australian Wooden Boat Festival director Paul Stephanus on the growth of one of the world’s great wooden boat events. Sessions on indigenous dhow communities and Pacific voyaging knowledge examine how ancient practices continue to shape culture and identity, alongside a screening of Whetu Marama honouring Sir Hekenukumai Busby and the revival of Maori voyaging. Hear about the next generation to carry the torch of maritime heritage and restoration, alongside presentations on restoration projects, steamship preservation and ocean adventure in Aotearoa New Zealand. The programme concludes with discussions on maritime archaeology and heritage protection — showing that preserving boats and knowledge helps us understand both our past and our future.
