This Monday: Road To Gold Q&A with Chips Howarth, Fireball world champ & Cyclops tech boss

"In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king."

Which is why high-performance sailors are increasingly turning to Cyclops for the accurate data they produce from their range of load sensors.

You're probably familiar with the trusty old Loos Gauge, the instrument that we use to measure our static rig loads when we're in the boat park. The numbers are a vital part of any sailmaker's tuning guide.

But of course the Loos Gauge is only giving us the story on the shore, it's not actually telling us what's going on while we're putting the boat through its paces on the race track.

You remember that time when the boat was in the groove, pointing higher, going faster than the competition. But you didn't really know why...

Load sensors from Cyclops Marine, designed with the minds at Cambridge University and America's Cup campaigners Ineos Team UK allow you to find that groove again and again in all conditions, maximise speed and protect your rig - taking the guesswork out of high performance.

For next week's Road To Gold Q&A call, we'll be joined by Cyclops' boss Chips Howarth (a former Fireball World Champion) and Ben Hazeldine (former 470 campaigner) about how all kinds of sailors and boats are using Cyclops technology to help them go faster.

What we'll be covering...

TOPIC: Find out what's fast, and repeat it

Get online with Road To Gold this Monday for a free Zoom call and a 60-minute Q&A session with the Cyclops team. The applications for Cyclops range from measuring:

  • the load going through the toe strap of a Laser dinghy to...
  • the load going through the forestay of an offshore racing yacht.
It's going to be a fascinating insight into how sailors are using this tech to make their boats go faster and to be able to repeat those fast settings.

Even if you have no intention of buying any Cyclops tech for yourself, this will still be a meaty call with plenty of great take-away insights that you can apply to your own sailing.

Join Road To Gold regulars Hamish Willcox and Andy Rice for an hour of go-faster conversation with our special guests. This is YOUR opportunity to put questions directly to the experts.

What do YOU want to know about racing faster?

Feel free to ask your question(s) during the call, but if you can't make it live then you can send them in beforehand - hit Reply to this email, or fill out our quick survey.

(If you just want to sit back and enjoy the chat, that's fine too!)

WHEN: Monday 3 June, 1800 UTC

Check how that time zone relates to where you are in the world.

It's not always possible to get on the call live, but we do provide a recording for our paying subscribers (and today happens to be the last chance to become one!).
