2025 Long Beach Olympic Classes Regatta - Day 4

by Long Beach Yacht Club 17 Jul 17:17 NZST 12-20 July 2025

ILCA 6 & 7, Men's & Women's Formula Kite and 470 Mixed Teams Wrap Up

The racing for the first 5 classes of the Long Beach Olympic Classes Regatta wrapped up with a twist in conditions and breeze just to mix it up for the competitors. While the strong breeze offshore teased the race committees, courses were run in proposed race areas and competitors had to rely on grit and determination to maintain leads or climb to the podium.

The kites, while not getting a race off on the final day, entertained the spectators! US Sailing sponsor Sextant wine brought friends and clients on the water to experience the thrill of seeing the world's best compete and cheer on the 51 USA competitors. The Irish contingent was on the water every day to cheer on their sailors. Area Junior Sailing coaches brought youth sailors out to spectate. Spectators could be heard picking their favorites in each class.

The classes were made up of a mix of experience, from young guns to Olympians all raising the bar every day. It was a steep learning curve for those who are new to Long Beach weather and winds.

The results are in...

470 Mixed: Gold, Justin Callahan & Lara Dallman-Weiss (USA); Silver, Nikole Barnes & Ryan Squire (USA); Bronze, Neil Marcelllini & Naomi Lowenthal (USA)

Men's Formula Kite: Gold, Tony Vodisek (SLO); Silver Connor Bainbridge (GBR); Bronze Vojtech Koska (CZ3)

Women's Formula Kite: Gold, Jesse Kampman (NED); Silver, Si Wang (CHN); Bronze, Wan Li (CHN)

ILCA 6: Gold, Eve McMahon (IRL); Silver, Hannah Snellgrove (GBR); Bronze, Agata Barwinska (POL)
