The Ibiza JoySail Superyacht Regatta is about to mark its fifth edition with exponential growth. In its first edition - held five years ago - four yachts took part, whereas a total of twenty-two superyachts have signed up for this year's race, plus a fascinating waiting list, which reflects the prestige of the event on the Mediterranean yachting circuit.

Contenders include S/Y Moat, a veteran boat who has raced every single year and always won her category, making her the gold standard in the regatta.

The event, which will be held between 18 and 21 September, once again shines the spotlight on Ibiza as a premium yachting destination. Ibiza Town, and the whole island, are must-visits for lovers of the sea and water sports. The combination of natural landscapes, historical heritage, culinary excellence and cosmopolitan atmosphere make Ibiza a place like nowhere else in the Mediterranean.

Marina Ibiza, located in the heart of Ibiza Town, boasts outstanding facilities and exclusive services, providing contenders and visitors with the full world-class yachting experience.

Meanwhile, the institutional support of Ibiza Town Council and the Island Council are key to the continuity and growth of Ibiza JoySail. Thanks to this sponsorship, the event doesn't just nurture sporting excellence, but also actively contributes to island's tourism industry and economy, bolstering Ibiza's position worldwide as a must-visit destination.

Mallorca-Ibiza Perpetual Trophy: the countdown is on

One of the most anticipated moments of each edition is the Perpetual Trophy, the timed challenge that pits yachts against each other in a high-octane crossing between Mallorca and Ibiza. The goal is to cover the forty-eight nautical miles between Punta Cala Figuera (Mallorca) and the island of Tagomago (Ibiza) in the shortest possible time. Speed, strategy and downwind sailing are the key ingredients to conquer this challenge that is already a classic within Ibiza JoySail.

The challenge will officially run between 16 August and 16 September, with mounting anticipation already in the air. The record is currently held by S/Y Maximus, who the last edition completed this section in three hours and thirty-one minutes. A difficult time to beat, but not off the cards.

Maximus won't be competing this year, but other veterans such as S/Y Gellicaux and S/Y Aurelius have already shown an interest in trying, keeping the competitive spirit of this iconic trophy well and truly alive.

The fifth edition of Ibiza JoySail promises to mark a new milestone in the race's history: more boats, more prowess and more excitement in one of the late summer's most eagerly awaited events.
